Asbestos - Building Inspections

It''s not designed to make you an expert in the art and science of asbestos identification or removal. Asbestos is a mineral, which occurs naturally in the environment. It is distinguishable by long thin fibers. There are two groups of Asbestos minerals: they are Serpentine and Amphibole. The Serpentine group is the most widely used and is the primary focus of our information. Chrysotile of the Serpentine group is the most widely used type of asbestos. It''s also known as White Asbestos. Asbestos over the years has been used to make hundreds of products. Collectively these products will be referred to as RACM or Regulated Asbestos Containing Materials. The most common use has been for fireproofing and thermal insulation and as an acoustical plaster.
