Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter
(11 min.)Insulation and grounding are 2 recognized means of preventing injury during electrical equipment operation. The metal housing or enclosure around a motor or the metal box in which the electrical switches, circuit breakers, and controls are placed protect the equipment from dirt and moisture and prevent accidental contact with exposed wiring. There is, however, a hazard associated with housings and enclosures. A malfunction within the equipment such as deteriorated insulation may create an electrical shock hazard. The use of a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) is one method used to overcome grounding and insulation deficiencies.
Included in this safety video is information regarding: definition of Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters, hazards associated with cord and plug connected equipment, continuity tests, tests performed on receptacles and plugs to ensure that the equipment grounding conductor is connected to its proper terminal, testing and record-keeping requirements, protection from electrocution, abuse of electrical tools, and electrical safety.
Program comes with a CD-ROM of written materials, including test questions and answers. English title also includes PowerPoint presentation.
