Solid Waste - Lockout/Tagout
(16 min.) The control of hazardous energy sources commonly known as Lockout/Tagout covers the use and maintenance of machines and equipment, in which the unexpected energization or startup of the machines or equipment or release of stored energy could cause injury to employees. Lockout requires that energy sources for equipment be turned off or disconnected and that the switch or energy source be locked.
Tagout requires that the equipment or switch be turned off or disconnected and labeled with a warning tag. In the event of a lockout device cannot be applied, the energy source must be isolated by other mechanical means such as blocking, caging, removal of a switch or handle, and so forth.
Topics included in this safety video are: energy control program, instructions for using the procedures, periodic inspection of equipment, affected employees, authorized employees, locks, tags, restarting or re-energizing equipment that is locked out or tagged out, categories, special equipment, electrical energy, mechanical energy, hydraulic energy, pneumatic energy, thermal energy, chemical energy, outside contractors, and annual reviews of lockout/tagout program.
