Electrical Safety Related Work Practices Standard
(11 min.) In August 1990, OSHA issued a new standardon electrical safety related practices for general industry. These performance oriented regulations complement the existing electrical installation standards by addressing safe work practices as a means to prevent electrical injuries. The new standard adds sections 1910.331 through 1910.335 to sub-part S, which is actually the National Electric Code adopted by OSHA.
Topics included in this safety video are: the new standard including employees to be trained in and familiar with the safety related work practices that pertain to them, safety related work practices, guidelines for the use, care, and handling of certain electrical equipment, and safeguards for personal protection including the use of personal protective equipment and protective tools, what OSHA inspectors will be looking for if your company is selected for an OSHA compliance visit (your company's written procedures, locking and tagging out equipment, training requirements, qualified and un-qualified employees, de-energized parts, verification of de-energization, activate the equipment operating control , test equipment, testing instruments and equipment shall be visually inspected), for circuits over 600 volts nominal, the test equipment shall be checked for proper operation immediately before and immediately after the test, qualified person shall conduct tests and visual inspections requirements shall be met in an order given before circuits or equipment are re-energized even temporarily, potentially exposed employees, lock and tag removal, and working on or near overhead power lines.
