Confined Space: The Silent Killers

(20 min.) Regulatory agencies define confined space as any space which by design has limited openings for entry and exit; unfavorable natural ventilation which could contain or produce dangerous air contaminants and one which is not intended for continuous occupancy.

Topics included in this safety video are: permit-required confined space i.e. hazardous atmosphere, material that has the potential for engulfing someone entering the space, has an internal configuration such that anyone entering could be trapped or asphyxiated by walls that converge inwardly or a floor that slopes downward and tapers to a smaller cross-section, contains any other recognized serious safety or health hazard, such as noise, electricity, radiation or moving machine parts, and other similar hazards, some of the hazards of confined space, toxic atmospheres, some definitions including attendant, inerting, zero mechanical state, engulfment, hot work permit, a "non-permit confined space," rescue team, what makes a safe confined space?, hazardous atmospheres in confined spaces, potentially hazardous gases including carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide, welding gases, the important job of testing atmospheres , evaluation testing, verification testing, testing duration, testing of stratified atmospheres, order of testing, and attendant training.
